On our last afternoon in Negombo we experienced a local market. here is Eddies report.
Here I am on the windy beach in Negombo just outside our hotel. It's incredibly hot and I actually got sunburn on my shoulder. After this picture was taken a snake charmer showed up with a monkey and insisted that we pay him money for pictures. After this we were not left alone by hawkers for many hours, to our hotels disgust.
After eating at Naomi's we went to our local market which really was an unforgettable experience- lots of noise, lots of smell, lots of tat to our eyes but essentials to the locals. To our suprise after this picture was taken Emmie was offered a child for a hundred rupees which is around 50p. We were gutted, to decline a child to poverty. There were many beggars which was very upsetting and lots of stray dogs.
Here are the market bananas which were great and tasted so much better than ours despite the fact they're much smaller.
There were spices everywhere.,
This group photo was taken seconds before Owen knocked a bike over after berating Bobby a minute earlier for the doing the same thing - ahh such sweet irony''!
I hope Olympic day went well at school. We're all having a great time, lots of great food and amazing sites and tuk tuks which are the coolest things ever.
Greetings to my family from Ed.
Next blog coming soon - our final evening in Negombo before we transfer to The Project!

ReplyDeleteEd - it looks amazing, and seems like you are working hard. What a great experience. I think my school trip was a wet week in the Lake District...! Make the most of it.
