Bobby and the elephants .....

Just in case you were wondering (Mark you owe me a drink!) I am the CEO in charge of the blog and all of the photos are mine, taken with my brand new Canon camera which explains why I am not in them. Thanks for the comments about the photos by the way, my photos are usually rubbish so it must be down to the camera :-). L R-C x

Now, for Mr Field and others here is a clue to the meaning of EQT.....

On to today's episode and today it is Bobby's turn.

After the second morning's work on the project, the children led the way to a field near the site where we could get to know everyone by playing cricket, sing songs and teach the kids some simple English (which they picked up on really well). The children were so sweet and the girls knew all our names in a matter of minutes, while we were struggling to remember 3. The cricket was a lot of fun where the local boys thrashed our team with their bowling and fielding.

In the afternoon we got to the place we had all been waiting for since we arrived... We got to vist the baby elephants. They were amazing as they ran into the feeding grounds where they would then be given milk. The noise they made was nothing like I would have expected they would have sounded like, it was like the sounds of dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.

A few of the elephants started to play fight in order to get first dibs on the milk (a bit like us when we are wanting a shower each day)

The elephants looked so friendly and I wish we could have got closer to stroke them.. Maybe next time when we come back.

After viewing the feeding we went to the shop where we could buy a few drinks and snacks. Matt filled up on his coke which was downed in an hour, and myself and Emmie bought some coconut biscuits which tasted amazing (too bad Sophie didn't think so as she mistakenly ate one and looked like she was about to be sick)!

The food we had later that day at the house was really good, but as usual I didn't go near the spicy dishes. Later that day we had EQT .........

(not the best photo as it looks as if I'm half asleep, but it will have to do) This is me at the elephant feeding grounds waiting for the babies to arrive. I am missing everyone at home and can't wait to come back to tell you all about it. I am really enjoying it out here and experiencing how different it is here compared to Andover. I am still trying to get used to the climate but hopefully it will be okay soon. I love reading the comments leading from the blogs each night... (Anna, Sally, dad and Ollie.. Etc) hope you are all enjoying some peace and quiet without us at home, but we will be coming back next week with lots of stories to tell everyone! Xxx

Thank you Bobby and if anyone speaks to Yee could you please ask her if Owen can delete Hollis' photos from the camera as he is running out of space!!

  3. Fabulous postings and photos. We are very jealous of you guys in the Hawke household. I am particularly keen on the mini elephants. So glad you are seeing and experiencing so much. Perhaps a parents' trip could be arranged (with more focus on the travel and less on the work). Keep up the blogs, they are great fun. Sally xxx

  4. Tell Owen to use his judgement as to which of Hollis' photos he can delete, ie., out of focus photos and unimportant photos can go. Sorry Hollis had forgotten to download his photos after the Normandy trip.
Thank you Bobby for taking Owen's photo and posting it on here, haven't seen him in days, we really appreciate these photos. xxx

  5. What beautiful photos! Keep them coming to continue to lift our soggy UK spirits!! Bobby, the most brilliant experience for you and your friends, this is the sort of journey you will remember always....even when you are as old as me!! Question...are the elephants orphans, what happens to them as they grow, do they live out in the wild or a secure reserve? Elephants are one of the most beautiful creatures, more pics please! Continue to enjoy this most magical journey, love and hugs, Sheralee
