Sam reports...
Yesterday morning we had an early wake up in order to get to the centre to work. There were long queues for the showers and for breakfast. After enjoying an early morning cold shower we packed our day bags and were off to the centre to start working.
We had 3 jobs to do yesterday morning at the centre there was...
Sand sifting. Very boring and tiring.
Painting. The most relaxing job although a bit messy.
And finally clearing the area where the fence was going to go. Looks easy but was a challenge. Harry was very happy when he managed to pull a huge root out of the ground.
Clearing the area in preparation for a fence.
Below are the rules whilst in the centre.
The first day of work was pretty tiring, but some parts were enjoyable. Even though we are only doing 4 hours of work per day, you can see the difference we are making to the children's lives. We here in Sri Lanka would like to thank the Maths department at Rookwood and Anna Coles for commenting on this blog - please keep your comments coming.
Well you've plenty of work on. Looks like there's more paint on Harry's tee-shirt than the wood! Sam, I've found you a summer job sifting topsoil. Keep on posting - it's great to see the project progressing. Dave
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing all the news. Great to hear how you are all faring.

Hope you are having a great time in Sri Lanka, Sam. There will be a chocolate cake waiting for you when you get home!!! From Becky
ReplyDeleteGlad to see everyone's still smiling. Early days yet! Well done all of you for raising the funds for this fantastic project. The school will remember you for years to come. A place to revisit when you're old and grey. Bobby as well - more paint on you than the wood. Keep the pictures comming.

It really is fantastic to receive your blogs, see all the photographs and really get a sense of what you're doing and achieving. We are very proud of all of you back home. Well done on that root Harry (very good for your arm muscles, saves on the gym)
