Part Two... Water everywhere....

After the temple at Kataragama we went for lunch. Sophie continues the story...

Hey everybody,

We were all very excited to see that the restaurant served pizza as particularly Matt and Bobby had been craving a Dominos, needless to say, it was like heaven on a plate, unfortunately most people couldn't finish the gigantic pizzas and they didn't do doggy bags. The restaurant also provided a lot of excitement and energy when it was discovered that it sold Red Bull. We were buzzing, literally

Here is James enjoying his hawaiian pizza.

Here is the post office outside Kirinda where we walked up to the temple.

I'm sure everybody on the trip has been to many exotic and exciting places, but personally this was one of the most beautiful places on earth (definitely makes the top 5), the temple behind us and the sea in front of us, what seemed like prehistoric rocks and landscapes on either sides. We all sat and admired the view and Cassie was so enlightened she even considered giving up bacon to become a Buddhist!

We all felt extremely holy after being blessed by a Hindu priest, Andrew was very excited to receive a bindi, even though it is usually a sign of a married woman...

It really was amazing and to quote Harry: 'At risk of sounding like my dad, it was truly beautiful'

Our bus driver kindly took us along the scenic route which allowed us to see monkeys and water buffalo, along with the amazing Sri Lankan countryside, the weather was also beautiful, (I hear it's still raining in England...)

Here's Hannah and Mrs Speed setting an extremely bad example by dipping their feet into the hot springs, the water was hot and so refreshing but unfortunately we were not informed that you are not supposed to get in the pools and swim about.. Basically the locals were not best pleased so we made a swift exit. However it was so fun while it lasted and to quote a popular catchphrase of the holiday...... yolo.

Here is yet another of the stunning Sri Lankan sunsets, which we got a great view of from the bus on the way home. We all got some lovely photos and it is something we will remember forever.

You can see below that we are all having a great time here teaching and interacting with the children as well, but there's more to come on that story tomorrow.

Until next time, I bid goodnight to everybody back home in sunny England, am missing you all almost as much as I miss English food... I joke miss you loads mum, dad and even the brothers, make the most of the quiet because when I get home I will have so many stories I will never shut up.

Love you all, Sophie xxx

  1. I was wondering how Sam was going to survive two weeks without pizza! The countryside looks incredible, a real case of 'wish I was there'. Fantastic blog, looking forward to the next one. Alex M

  4. Wow, What a day you've all had. The photos look fantastic, I'm hoping there's lots more stored on your cameras and you'll put on a lecture tour when you get back. Does anyone have a video of James and Andrew hot-footing it as I'd love a copy of this for the family archives.

Well its bye from me for the next week as I'm off to China in the morning and your site may be censored. Hope you all have a fantastic time in the week you have left. Can't wait to see the final pictures of the finished building - will you really be able to finish it next week?

Take care everyone - Still no photos of Mrs Clarke - did you leave her behind?

  5. Glad to see Mrs "David Bailey" Clarke is getting on so well with the new camera the pictures are great. If the next blog has no photos we will definitely know you have buried her under a pile of sifted sand. Mrs Clarke and Mrs Speed will be pleased to know we have finished next year's timetable and as they weren't here to complain we have given all the lessons to them. Mr Winnett and I are going to teach Mrs Cumpstey how to play golf in all our extra free lessons. It continues to look as though you are having a great time, I'm looking forward to all the stories when you get back, how many assemblies would you like me to reserve for you? I'm off to the south of France in the morning but I will make sure I continue to follow your blog. All the best to all of you. Mr Pool
