Today we lucked out, no sand sifting, no hole digging, not even painting. Instead cement mixing... only by hand, with the sand and stone at one end of the site, the mix on another and the building even further away.
So the first problem? Was getting all the mix to the right place. Matt and Lucy set to work on loading the sand into the woks, then Mrs Clarke's 'chain gang' carried the woks to the cement mixer - a raised bit of ground, where me Sophie and Emmie, after some tuition set to work on mixing the sand with the mix. Then after shifting and mixing the sand the chain gang started moving the rocks to the mix, that was tactically chucked in by James. Then Ruwantha and our driver Sarath mixed the rocks with the mixture. Creating our very own cement.
After we had finishing making the cement, the chain gang once again set to work carrying the cement mix to the building. Chloe absolutely did not drop any of the woks. Honestly...
Thinking that our work was done the three of us took a break, little did we know only a small fraction of the work. Luckily there was an endless supply of sand, stone and mix. Yay!
Once again we were mixing, shifting and carrying cement to and from various places.
For me the highlight of the mixing had to be the singing, I use singing in the loosest term but it was still good fun.
Whilst we were all hard at work with the cement, the local children were doing the final touches to the fences clearing the final plants and stumps around the site.
It's fair to say that they worked hard throughout the day.
Well, most of them...
After some three and a half hours we had finished the flooring in the building, so we all took a well deserved rest.
Two weeks of effort I think it's fair to say the building is nearly done. After todays work I finally submitted to EQT...
Thanks for all your previous comments from every one especially the mother - part of me, is looking forward to seeing the family soon, part of me.. bye!
Fantastic team work, it looks genuinely exhausting. Thank you Harry, may I say we are also 'partly' looking forward to your return. On a serious note, is that a rare sighting of the lesser spotted Mrs Clarke in the pink T shirt? And finally I think it's time you came clean about EQT - hope you're all having a well deserved rest and a fun evening and feeling very self righteous. Looking forward to tomorrow's news - love to all x
ReplyDeleteThat "back to work" feeling comes to us all. Well done to all for keeping going. Must say though it looks a bit like making mud pies to me & anyone wanting to continue the effort when they come home could try our back garden. Yes. It is still raining.
